Labeo bata is a small indigenous fish (SIF) belongs to the family Cyprinidae under the order Cypriniformes. The species is reducing day by day from natural water resources due to loss of natural habitats. Already it has been declared as an endangered species. To conserve this endangered species in a sustainable way, captive breeding programs is the ultimate strategy. In addition to that though the culture, breeding and larval rearing technology of the major carps has been available for decades other minor carps including Labeo bata of commercial importance have been largely ignored. Fish seed production through small-scale hatcheries continues to be a focus of attention in many countries. The cost of production is not in favour of the farmers in most of the fish seed farm. This Book provides a farmer proven low cost breeding and nursery rearing performance of Labeo bata in order to develop viable seed production technology. The book also illustrated the various stages of embryological and larval development of the species.
