The book restructures the 12 peer-reviewed contributions of the Reframing Information Architecture one-day workshop held at the ASIS&T Information Architecture Summit in Baltimore (MD) on April 3 2013, into a larger conversation on the role and boundaries of the field that accounts for the outcomes of the workshop itself as well. Technological, economic, social, and cultural elements of change have thoroughly transformed the scenario in which information architecture operated in the late 1990s, and the workshop was proposed as a necessary step in the reframing process, a push to move the conversation forward, come to terms with the design nature of information architecture, consolidate intuitions into discipline, and help establish a common language and grammar for practice, research and, education in the field. The workshop and the book acknowledge this ongoing change and offer a way to reconceptualize the shifting role and nature of information architecture when information permeates digital and physical space, users are producers, and products are increasingly becoming complex cross-channel or multi-channel services.
